There are houses that are primarily beautiful accommodations. And then there are places that feel like a small world of their own after a short time. This villa on La Palma clearly belongs to the latter category.
Located about one kilometer below Puntagorda and at an altitude of approximately 550 meters, the house opens up to a wide 180-degree panorama of the Atlantic. In front of the villa lies not an ordinary garden, but a sanctuary that has grown over many years, featuring various terraces, subtropical plants, natural stone, Moroccan Zellige tiles, watercourses, and small retreats. The garden was designed over ten years on multiple levels, combining Arab-Andalusian influences with the landscape of the Canary Islands. Among the plants, you’ll find water features, fountains, and countless spots where you can settle down and enjoy the view over the Atlantic.
The small, handcrafted plunge pool is particularly beautiful. The solar-heated water, under a blue sky, is around 36 degrees Celsius in summer and about 22 degrees Celsius in winter. The round pool terrace opens to the sea and is accompanied by an almost complete infinity edge – an unusual place for a swim with expansive views over the Atlantic.
The other terraces also have their own character. Evenings can be spent under the star-shaped pergola, the breakfast terrace is sheltered under a weeping willow, and lounge chairs invite you to linger on the ocean-facing terrace. Between them, the garden’s water features gently ripple. The Arabian fountains and watercourses are not merely decorative elements; they lend the entire place its special tranquility and atmosphere.
This signature style continues indoors. The villa was built in the traditional Canarian style and designed with elements of the Arab-Spanish Mudéjar style. Wooden ceilings, Canarian windows and doors, wooden floors, handcrafted furniture, and Moroccan tiles give the rooms a character far removed from the usual holiday home style. In the kitchen, real wood and colorful Zellige tiles meet modern and complete amenities.
The living room forms the heart of the house. In addition to a cozy sofa corner with a sofa and armchair and a large dining table, there is even a grand piano here. Two Android Smart TVs with streaming, Astra satellite reception, and Spanish television, a sound system, and fast fiber optic Wi-Fi ensure that even longer stays are pleasant and uncomplicated. The Wi-Fi, with multiple access points, is available not only in the house but throughout the entire garden.
The villa has two bedrooms and can accommodate up to four people. The master bedroom is equipped with a spacious double bed measuring 180 × 200 cm. The second bedroom offers two extra-wide single beds, each 125 × 200 cm, and a small workspace. A main bathroom with a nearly walk-in Villeroy & Boch shower, Moroccan Zellige tiles, and high-quality fittings, as well as a separate washroom with an additional toilet, are available to guests.
The kitchen is also part of the house’s special design. It was custom-built by a carpenter with real wood and fitted with Moroccan tiles. In addition to the four-burner gas hob, there is an electric oven, a microwave with hot air function, a refrigerator with freezer compartment, and a dishwasher. A Nespresso machine is available for the first coffee; there are also utensils for filter coffee. Upon arrival, guests will also find some coffee capsules, local specialties, and wine from La Palma in the house.
Three particularly quiet and energy-efficient air conditioning units with heat pump function ensure pleasant temperatures throughout the year. They can be used for both heating and cooling. A washing machine and a heat pump dryer are also available. The private parking space is directly at the house, and access is via a level ramp.
The stay begins with a particularly personal touch upon arrival. The hosts greet their guests themselves and ensure a warm welcome with fresh flowers, wine from Garafía, Almendrados from Puntagorda, coffee capsules, and a small basic supply of consumables.
The villa is situated in a quiet, secluded location at an altitude of approximately 550 meters, about one kilometer below Puntagorda in the northwest of La Palma. In front of the house lies the Atlantic; behind the property, the island’s landscape begins with its mountains, forests, and agricultural areas. Puntagorda itself is a rather unspoiled place with small streets, traditional houses, almond trees, and abundant nature. The island’s large tourist centers are far away – precisely what makes this location so appealing.
Around the house, La Palma can be discovered in a particularly beautiful way. Hiking trails lead through the landscape of the northwest, the coast is not far away, and the island offers astonishing diversity in a small area: from deep gorges and ancient pine forests to volcanic landscapes and expansive views over the Atlantic. Those who venture out can get to know the different facets of La Palma and then return to the tranquility of their own garden.
However, there’s much to be said for not planning some days at all. Then the garden itself becomes the destination: coffee under the pergola in the morning, later a dip in the warm plunge pool, a few hours in the shade of the plants, and in the evening, the view over the sea as the sun slowly disappears behind the Atlantic.
The villa is suitable for up to four people; children aged 16 and over are welcome. One dog may accompany guests upon request. A strict smoking ban applies throughout the property, and private parties are not permitted.
It is a place for people who don’t just want to stay anywhere, but who want to immerse themselves for a while in a special atmosphere. A house with an unusual architectural signature, a garden full of stories, and a view that makes the Atlantic appear a little different every day.
