Why we love this place

This house has a history that has not been taken away from it. Instead of hiding the old half-timbered structure behind modern furnishings, the historic fabric was painstakingly preserved and complemented with minimalist furniture, oak wood, and contemporary technology. The fact that clay plaster, reed insulation, and a geothermal heat pump were used here shows just how seriously the restoration was taken. It’s a house where we particularly appreciate the understated design.

About this home

Around 1730, a farmhouse was built in Nothweiler; it was one of the village’s first seven houses. Nearly three centuries later, the building had stood vacant for many years and was in such poor condition that it required extensive renovation. Between 2021 and 2025, it was restored under the guidance of historic preservation experts. Today, the former residence and the adjacent barn house two separate vacation rentals.

This historic residence spans two floors and offers 112 m² of living space for four people. The restoration has opened up the rooms and given them a sense of spaciousness that one might not necessarily expect behind the old half-timbered facade. The interior design is modern and deliberately minimalist. Custom-made oak pieces, select designer furniture, and a clean aesthetic complement the preserved elements of the historic building.

The living and dining areas and the kitchen are located on the ground floor. The kitchen is fully equipped, including an induction cooktop with a built-in range hood, an oven, a dishwasher, and a refrigerator with a freezer compartment. A Moka pot and an Italian espresso maker are available for making coffee. There is also a smaller bathroom on this floor.
The two bedrooms are located on the upper floor. One is furnished with a 160 × 200 cm double bed, and the other with two single beds, each measuring 100 × 200 cm. The larger of the two bathrooms is located on the same floor. Additional amenities include a smart TV, a Denon hi-fi system with Bowers & Wilkins speakers, and free Wi-Fi.

During the renovation, great care was taken in selecting the materials used. The interior walls were insulated with reed, and the walls and ceilings were mostly refinished with clay plaster. The old windows were replaced with custom-made wooden windows that comply with historic preservation regulations. The building is heated by a geothermal heat pump with underfloor and wall heating, powered by green electricity.

The house has its own terrace with a garden area. The former bakehouse is also part of this area. The entire property measures approximately 800 m² and is shared with the second vacation rental, located in the former barn section. Each unit has its own parking space.

The house is located in the center of the village, right next to the church. The narrow road leading toward France sees very little car traffic; hikers and cyclists are more common here. From the front door, trails lead into the forests of the Palatinate Forest, to colorful sandstone cliffs and ancient castle ruins. The French border is just 300 meters away.

The accommodation includes a private parking space next to the house, access to the adjoining patio and garden area, and free Wi-Fi.
